  • Represent and interpret data
  • Persevere and maintain focus during math learning

Science

Grade 3 students investigate and extend their knowledge in science as they learn through inquiry-based instruction on topics of life and earth sciences, as well as science safety guidelines. Students demonstrate their understanding of science concepts and key vocabulary, make reasonable predictions, record accurate observations, and use their science notebooks to present information in words and drawings.

Grade 3 Science curriculum, instruction, and assessment help each student to:

  • Explore the topics of animal adaptations, ecosystems, and the impact of temperature or other outside factors
  • Research, design, and build birdfeeders
  • Understand the interdependence of skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems of the human body
  • Learn how rocks and minerals cycle through earth
    systems

Social Studies

Grade 3 Social Studies curriculum, instruction, and assessment build on students’ understanding of the Town of Trumbull to help each student:

  • Compare the history and geography of the Town of Trumbull with at least one other town in the United States and at least two towns or regions in other parts of the world
  • Develop an understanding of how the economy of the United States has developed through farming, industry, and transportation
  • Exhibit competency in relevant literacy, inquiry, and research skills

Library Media

Grade 3 Library Media curriculum, instruction, and assessment help each student learn to:

  • Explore a variety of appropriate literary genres, become familiar with basic reference materials, and use the note-taking process by scanning resources for specific information
  • Create a research document based on organized notes, a simple citation, and research from a student-friendly search engine

Grade 3 Music curriculum, instruction, and assessment help each student learn to:

  • Develop and extend rhythm patterns using Orff instruments, reinforcing both aural and visual phrases
  • Develop an understanding of accompaniment by
    singing in rounds and harmony
